On May 4th, 2026, four of the five Lenox Township Board of Trustees voted to reject extending the data center moratorium – a request which came from their own Planning Commission.
The response was swift: on May 5th, recall petition paperwork was picked up from Macomb County Clerk’s office. Unsurprisingly, they knew it was for Lenox Township.

On May 6th, recall petitions were dropped off at the Macomb County Clerk’s office for Anthony Reeder Jr., Jennifer Pfleuger-Sutherland, Joe Rosseel, and Joe Marino.

On May 7th, additional recall petitions were submitted to Macomb County Clerk’s office for Joe Rosseel, Jennifer Pflueger-Sutherland, and Michelle Gurley.

The recall petition hearing was held on May 26th at 11am in the courtroom of Macomb County Probate Judge Harrison. Although some of the recall petitions did receive “Yes” votes from one of the three committee members, the petitions failed to get approved. While the main recall was against 4 of the 5 members for rejecting the moratorium extension, the actual motion made was (paraphrased) “to continue the existing moratorium” – not to reject it – and thus the petition language was voted down.
A subsequent set of recall petitions have been dropped off at Macomb County, this time ensuring the wording of the petitions perfectly matches the meeting minutes. A new recall petition hearing will be held on June 15th at 11am in the courtroom of Macomb County Probate Judge Harrison.
